Right on! You’ve ordered some sample reusable packages, if not at least one. OR maybe you ordered them a while ago, and you weren’t sure how to go about implementing them? Either way, something told you to order a sample. And we’re here to reassure you – you made the right decision.
Of course, not everyone’s sustainable shipping journey looks the same. So, by shipping samples to kick-start your reuse program, you and your Reuse Specialist will get a better understanding of sizing, product care, and customer communication as you both continuously work to optimize the reusable packaging and to scale-up once your soon-to-be sustainable supply chain is established.
Let’s go through what you’ll need to do to jumpstart sustainable shipping before your sample(s) arrive. In these four quick and easy steps, you’ll set yourself and your reuse program up for success by illuminating what you’ve locked down and what, perhaps, needs your attention.
1. Get to know your Reuse Specialist.
This seems a bit obvious, we know. But truly, our Reuse Specialists are here to help you optimize your reuse program for the long-term. We want you to ask those gnarly questions keeping you awake at 2 a.m. Email your specialist or call them (perhaps not at 2 a.m.), and they’ll be there to answer your questions or to, at least, help you find the answers.
Additionally, you can visit our FAQ page for immediate answers to some of those more fundamental questions including how it works, cost, and sizing.
2. Brainstorm brand messaging to encourage return.
Get the team together, or ask the Internet. Whatever your creative process, brainstorm encouraging and exciting marketing messages, now, to hype customers for the reuse arrival and to educate them on the change. Your customers will need to know how to return the packaging and, chances are, they’ll want to know why they should use it.
Once your samples arrive, and you begin work with your Reuse Specialist in supply chain implementation, customer participation will become the pulse of your reuse program. With each circulation, cumulative data will start to propel your program further and further along your business’ sustainability journey. Offering customers incentives, such as discounts or rewards, each time they return the package will increase customer LTV by transforming customers into active ambassadors of their own sustainability journeys; as well as, active ambassadors of your business’ journey. And it will improve their overall ecommerce experience along each touch point – from purchase to delivery – and back again if they have a return.
3. Gather some cotton string or zip ties for securing your customers’ packages.
The reusable packages are secure by design. But a little extra security never hurts when it comes to our customers and yours. But if cotton string or zip ties aren’t your jam, that’s cool. It’s completely up to you how you secure your customers’ packages.
Check out the videos below for an application demonstration (process will vary depending on size and product):
4. Seriously, go get the team together.
If you’ve subscribed to LimeLoop’s digital platform, you’ll gain access to a plethora of exciting features. As it becomes an asset management and customer service tool, the digital platform will simultaneously connect everyone along your supply chain, no matter the size or location of your business. The transition will be much smoother if your team knows what to expect.
Opening internal communication is integral to authentic and transparent external communication. Consistency will also be key. Your employees will be learning the program – as representative reuse leaders – and your customers will be looking to them for cues on how to interact with the reusable packages and, even, how to further their own sustainable living.
As a branch of brainstorming, guide your team through their questions and how the reuse program will work once the packages arrive. And feel free to download our Sample Pre-Arrival Checklist PDF to support internal communication about sustainable shipping with reusable packaging.
